Smiley Blast! the Smiley Puzzle Game
Jun 18th
Smiley Blast! really is one of the Best iPhone Games.
There is no free iPhone game version at the moment.
But, Smiley Blast! is available in the App. Store for just $0.99. What a bargain! It originally debuted at $1.99 when released in April.
This iPhone Puzzle game is perfect for the casual gamer. You can play for short or long periods of time.
Whenever you resume the application it reads your last attempted level and lets you resume from there.
You initiate game play with a simple well chosen touch on one of the Smileys.
You select the Red Smiley you’d like to eliminate and he shatters, causing a chain reactiondomino cascade-like effect on his neighbours situated on the cardinal points of North, South, East and West of his position.
There are Blue, Green, Yellow and Red Smileys. They are eliminated by touches or hits.
Blues takes 4 hits or touches.Green takes 3,Yellow takes 2,Red takes 1.
There are 100 levels to start and future versions of the game will add more in 100 Level increment installments.
Smiley Blast! encourages strategic game play. It encourages the use of your intuition and memory. It helps you exercise parts of your Brain that ordinarily don’t get a workout.
It’s the perfect iPhone Game for young and old alike.
It appeals to boys and girls, men and women. It especially appeals to kids who quickly master the simple game play but are also engaged by the challenge.Smiley Blast! is challenging without being too frustrating which is a hard balance to acheive in a puzzle game.
It offers lots of replay value. If you clear a level on the first try you are awarded 3 stars on the score board for the level.Second try nets you 2 stars and third attempts net you 1 star for clearing the level successfully. After that there is no star given for the level unless you try it again later after relaunching the application.
You feel a real sense of accomplishment when you complete a level that your friends cannot. It’s great for answering the question. “Are you smarter than me?”. Not sure? Prove it by beating this level.
Then hand them Smiley Blast! on you iPhone and iPod touch or iPad and see. You’ll have a good time together while they try.

So I was trying to install the new iOS 5 Xcode for Snow Leopard Beta SDK for iOS 5 which Apple kindly released on June 6th 2011. I’ve already installed iOS 5 on my iOS devices. It’s truly awesome. It does drain your battery though with all the amped up syncing over the air. I imagine the golden master version will dial all of that down.
Anyway when I installed the SDK or tried to I got an error.
It failed continuously with an Installation Failed Message.
“The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.”
So I checked the /private/var/log/install.log file where I found the error in the title:
./preinstall: sudo: /etc/sudoers is mode 0644, should be 0440
Then after almost a week of searching around on the web I found the answer right here:
http://helpdesk.mywiseguys.com
It says:
You changed the permissions on an area you shouldn’t have but Mac makes this easy to fix.
Open Applications – Utilities – Disk Utility
Select your Macintosh HD and select Repair Disk Permissions
This should correct the issue for you.
Hope this helps you too. It just worked for me.

Dear Reader,
At Last! Smiley Blast! is in the Apple iTunes App. Store.
It is a credit to the quality of the game that it got in on the first review.
It does not leak memory.
But let me know if you see any crashes and I’ll hunt them and fix them.
I hates bugs.

Dear Reader,
It’s about time that I lifted the covers off and show you more about what Smiley Blast! is.
It’s a really fun puzzle game that challenges you to clear 100 levels of Smileys.
The Smileys are in different positions and are in 4 colours.
Red’s take 1 touch to clear and Blues take 4.
Of course 100′s more levels will be coming in the months to come.
In the spirit of good Puzzle Games, Smiley Blast will help you improve the following:
Don’t believe it; Just try it and see.
Here are some screen shots:
So if you like seeing Dominoes fall and cascade or settings off Chain Reactions of events, then Smiley Blast’s is definitely your kind of game.
Just a little while longer and it should be in the App. Store.

Dear Reader,
Writing a game for the iPhone is definitely a fun and challenging experience.
I love the creativity of it all. But as a lone developer with a first Application you run into a lot of interesting problems to solve.
Theres:
But there is also Back Story.
When you select Main Characters as Smileys then in order to give the game some depth, i believe there should be Back Story,
Where do Smiley’s come from? Where do they live? What are they doing in this game? Do you hurt them when you touch them?
It definitely puts your mind in a different place for a while.
And then where can you find people interested enough to help you flesh out these other worldly concepts.
I suppose having other dedicated, creative people around is one of the advantages of being part of a Game Publishing Studio.
Well for now, I’m hoping this post will resinate with someone and we can get a discussion going at some point.
Ideally you are another iPhone First Time Gamer Developer like me.
Thanks for reading.
Rob
P.S
As for where Smileys live; Right now I’m going with a Tropical Theme.
Smiley’s Live in the Tropics near the Beach and Love the Sunshine.
